Pemba Spices Tour

While spices no longer dominate the economy of Zanzibar as they once did, there are still many spice plantations scattered across the island that are worth visiting. During this tour, you will have the opportunity to smell and taste a variety of herbs, spices, and tropical fruits such as papaya, oranges, jackfruit, cassava, cinnamon, black pepper, turmeric, cloves, and ginger, among others. Friendly, knowledgeable, and informative tour guides will accompany you on a walking tour of the spice farms.

This is a half-day tour along the old Wete road to the village of Mtambwe, where you can explore a variety of spices. While the spice tour industry is not as developed in Pemba as it is in Zanzibar, Pemba actually produces the majority of spices exported from Tanzania. Additionally, 70% of the world's clove harvest comes from Pemba Island, solidifying it as a true spice island.
